New Model Predicts Fewer COVID-19 Deaths
The total number of coronavirus deaths in the U.S. may be lower than previous estimates, according to the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation at the University of Washington School of Medicine.

The new assessment predicts approximately 81,766 deaths, with a range between 49,431 and 136,401. That is a downward revision of the estimates of the higher end; the institute also projects deaths from the virus will peak earlier. Read more.

U.K. Prime Minister Boris Johnson has been moved to an intensive care unit after his coronavirus symptoms "worsened." Johnson has asked Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab to act for him "where necessary." Read more.

Louisiana Officials See Hopeful Signs
Officials in Louisiana say they have turned the tide in a state that has emerged as one of the nation's hot spots and trails only New York in the rate of coronavirus deaths per 100,000 people. Despite the staggering numbers of confirmed cases, the growth of new cases may be slowing, said Gov. John Bel Edwards. Read more.

The worldwide outbreak of the coronavirus currently exceeds 1,348,000 confirmed cases across more than 180 countries. At the time of this writing, 368,376 cases have been confirmed in the U.S.

U.S. health officials warn of a difficult week ahead as the U.S. death toll from the coronavirus surpasses 10,000.

The states with the most COVID-19 cases:
  • New York: 131,815 confirmed cases and 4,758 deaths
  • New Jersey: 41,090 confirmed cases and 1,003 deaths
  • Michigan: 17,221 confirmed cases and 727 deaths
  • California: 16,347 confirmed cases and 388 deaths
  • Louisiana: 14,867 confirmed cases and 512 deaths

SPOTLIGHT ON VENTILATOR SHORTAGE
Washington, Oregon Send Ventilators to New York
As states plead the government for additional medical supplies, some states, including Washington and Oregon, are taking it upon themselves to send ventilators to states that need them most.

Washington Gov. Jay Inslee announced that his state will be returning more than 400 ventilators received from the Strategic National Stockpile so that they can be transferred to other states.
